5 Favorite Movie Villians

What is it about movie villains that we love? I’m not the kind of expert that could provide an educated answer on that sort of question. However, I can provide you a list of 5 of my favorites from movies. Who are your favorites? Let us know in comments or on social media.

Die Hard – Hans Gruber

Die Hard is a movie I can watch dozens of times and never get tired of it. Part of that is because of the performance of Alan Rickman as Hans Gruber. Hans had a charm to him. You knew he was bad but you couldn’t help but like him on some sort of level (even if he was reprehensible).

I also want to point out Alan Rickman was in his 40s when this movie was made. This began the legendary film career of Alan Rickman too. That tells me it is never too late to find major success in your life. Rest in Peace, Alan Rickman, you were an international treasure.

Lion King – Scar

If there is one Disney villain that was my personal favorite, it was Scar. As a child, I hated him. As an adult, on some level, I am more empathetic to him. For a children’s animated movie, he is a very complex villain. I personally hope we get to see a great portrayal of this beloved character in the new Lion King live action movie and not a watered down version.

Back to the Future – Biff Tannen

In the first Back to the Future, Biff Tannen played George McFly’s lifelong bully. Thomas Wilson played Biff and he did an amazing job with the character. As someone who was bullied growing up, I wanted to see this character get his comeuppance.

I’ve watched this movie around 200 times in my life. That is not even an exaggeration. That is a fact. So when I watch this movie and I see this scene, I still get goosebumps and my hair stands up.

That is the effect that this movie still holds over me. It is still one of my favorites ever.

Terminator 2: Judgment Day – T-1000

While the first Terminator is a classic, the sequel will always go down as an all time classic. The special effects for this early 90s movie still hold up pretty well in 2018. Not only that, but the character of T-1000, is excellent. Robert Patrick did an amazing job as an emotionless killing machine. It still gives me the creeps till this day.

Here is The SImpsons parody of my favorite scene from Terminator 2. (“I CAN’T! IT IS A GEO!!!”)

Star Wars – Darth Vader

In the original Star Wars trilogy, Darth Vader is a beloved villain. Darth Vader is cool. The man is a bad ass. Honestly, he totally steals the show. Honestly, at comic and fan conventions, I see more cosplays of Darth Vader than I do of the trilogy’s protagonist, Luke Skywalker. Keep in mind the original Star Wars film was released around 40 years ago. That is the hold Darth Vader has had on American pop culture and cinema history.

While many will argue that the prequel trilogy didn’t give his character any justice, he was definitely restored to glory in the recent Star Wars spinoff, Rogue One. All it took, was 2 scenes. Here is one of them.
