Is Another the Perfect Horror Anime for October?

Anotheris a Japanese animated horror television series twelve episodes. Based on the same titled novel by Yukito Ayatsuji, the series is set in 1998 and focuses on a boy named Kōichi Sakakibara who, upon transferring into Yomiyama Middle School and meeting classmate Mei Misaki, finds himself in a mystery revolving around students and people related to his class facing gruesome and senseless deaths.  The curse trope is common in Japanese folklore and this is no exception.

Due to his father working overseas, he moves in with his grandparents. Kōichi has a condition called  pneumothorax (air trapped between lung and chest wall) so he spends the first month in the hospital. He is visited by 3 of his classmates. They act rather odd and welcome him to the class.

Once recovered, he attends school in class 3-3. He meets Mei who tells him class 3-3 is close to death. His classmate  Naoya Teshigawara slips and tells the class is cursed.

Mei advises one of her eyes is a dolls eye and it can see strange things, she keeps it covered with the eye patch. She also tells of the tragic death of a classmate in 1972’s class 3-3 also named Misaki. When she died ,the class continued acting like Misaki was alive, thus inviting death.

The way they have combated the curse in the past was the creation of Another, choosing a student at random and pretend they do not exist. No one is allowed to speak to or even acknowledge their existence. Koichi was not aware of this and has already spoken to and about Mei . Since she was the chosen Another, the curse started.

Who will live, who will die ? The story picks up and has some gruesome deaths. I will avoid any spoilers, but for the spooky season I highly recommend watching this anime!

There is also a novel, graphic novel so if you rather read it is also available (as well as a sequel novel).

I hope you will give it a chance, if you do please let me know what you thought! Thank you for reading, ‘Another’ time then!
