New Music Friday – Alice Cooper, Make Them Suffer, Byzantine, Masterplan

Every Friday I load up my Release Radar playlist on Spotify and listen to new music from my favorite artists. Then I go out an order the vinyl that is available to order to double support the artist. The few pennies I earn them on Spotify from listening on the god and the record sale I feel is a good way to go. So what are my recommendations that were released this week? I have legends here like Alice Cooper and up and coming artists like Make Them Suffer. “Paranormal” by Alice Cooper You would think after being in the music business for almost 50 years one would lose steam, but Alice Cooper keeps on rocking. This is a great… Continue reading New Music Friday – Alice Cooper, Make Them Suffer, Byzantine, Masterplan

Chicago Open Air 2017 Day 1 – Mr and Mrs J’s Adventures

I’ve talked about some of my adventures on here before. Well, this past weekend, my wife and I went to our first multi-day music festival. It was Chicago Open Air 2017. If you read this blog you will know my love of metal music. Yes, I love rock, pop, and other genres too, but I feel this music in my soul. When my mother was pregnant with me, she listened to Def Leppard’s Pyromania throughout the pregnancy. So when I was a baby, they would have to play that album to get me to calm down from my tantrums. No joke. I’ve been a rocker ever since. Now I had personally been to Family Values Tour and Ozzfest, but those… Continue reading Chicago Open Air 2017 Day 1 – Mr and Mrs J’s Adventures

Helix: A Great Band? Or the Greatest Band?

There are some moments on Spotify and YouTube where I go down a rabbit hole of discovering music and videos. Some of it is great. Some of it is not so much. Then, there is something so amazing, you have to share with the world. Right now, the band and their amazing videos that I discovered is the 1980s band, Helix. “Who is Helix?” – Everyone reading this. They are a Canadian heavy metal band. Canada is not exactly known for metal bands. Sure, there are some good ones, but the scene has never exactly been booming with that many. The 1980s gave us Helix. Boy, did they give us a banger of a hair metal band. They are known… Continue reading Helix: A Great Band? Or the Greatest Band?

5 Music Videos for a Bad Music Video Party

Years ago I had an annual tradition that I am passing onto everyone. It is called “Metal Mania” but can be used for any genre of music. It is like a B Movie party but only with bad music videos. Back in the day I had to “acquire” them digitally and burn onto DVD. However, nowadays you can setup a playlist on YouTube and use your streaming player to get a party like this going. Also, lots of alcohol and your friends with the sickest sense of humor. Let us take a look at 5 candidates you may want to consider. Motorhead – Killed by Death First of all, may you R.I.P. Lemmy, you magnificent bastard. Who doesn’t want to… Continue reading 5 Music Videos for a Bad Music Video Party

Tribute to a Legend: Chris Cornell

Here at Geek With That, sometimes we feel that sometimes we just need to stop and discuss certain events. One of those unfortunately is the passing of Chris Cornell. A Musician’s Perspective I thought that a musician could say it best. So I reached out to my friend, Tyler Reavely, who is always poetic. Tyler, of the NineString Collective, had this to say: “In this day and age, it’s easy to pass judgement. It’s easy to condemn others for actions and feelings you don’t understand. But the loss of Chris Cornell has me saddened many for more reasons than are on the surface. As a young budding artist I looked up to him as a fellow singer and musician. His… Continue reading Tribute to a Legend: Chris Cornell

Teeze is a Fun Mix of Old School Rock With a Modern Twist

I was recently introduced to a band in the Chicago area known as Teeze. I checked them out and I was very intrigued. Their originals captured the vibe of eighties hard rock that I grew up loving and jamming to, but, also, they have a modern feel to them, too. They absolutely crush it and I couldn’t be more excited recommending a band. In Their Own Words From Their Facebook “Electrifying and unstoppable, TEEZE is a hard rocking staple in the Chicagoland music scene. Encompassing a huge range of music from eighties rock to modern and heavy, their high energy show never disappoints. TEEZE possess an onstage chemistry that engages the entire audience. Influenced by KISS, AC/DC, Nickleback, Shinedown and… Continue reading Teeze is a Fun Mix of Old School Rock With a Modern Twist

Shokker is a Heavy Metal Revival Band You Don’t Want to Miss

There is an reemergence slowly happening in the underground of the metal scene. It is the return of old school heavy metal. The sound of bands like Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Accept, and more. One of the bands forging their path in that scene is Chicago’s Shokker. I personally got to witness them not only open for heavy metal legends, Queensryche at the Arcada Theatre on May 5th, but also receive a standing ovation from the crowd at the end of their show because they owned the stage. The Band and Music “Shokker was formed in early 2011. Music reminiscent of the metal era of the late 70s, and 80s, Shokker has formed a perfect blend of classic… Continue reading Shokker is a Heavy Metal Revival Band You Don’t Want to Miss
